PRC 343

The UK/PRC-343 or "Personal Role Radio" (PRR) as it has come to be known is the latest in communication systems for use within a section. This allows for each soldier/cadet to have a radio and therefore to be in close communication with all those in the section. Operating in the UHF frequency band and operating at a very low power (two AA batteries) this radio system is with limitations and provides a range of only 150-200 metres but is therefore ideal for section usage.
Each PRR comes with the following:
- 1 x Headset
- 1 x Remote Push To Talk (PTT) switch
- 1 x Holster (for connecting to PLCE)
- 2 x AA Batteries
- 1 x Clansman Patch Lead (IC Only)

All of these ancillaries are designed for use in combat conditions. The remote PTT switch would be connected to the hand guard of the rifle allowing for operation in the "alert" position and the patch lead also allows the IC the opportunity to connect his/her PRR to a clansman radio. They will then receive both traffic through the same earpiece and using the bottom PTT (the ICs radio has two) they can then communicate on a higher net level.
Average battery life for the PRR is around 10-12 hours which is more than sufficient for most activities. These are however, not on issue to cadets at present.
