VRC 321

The UK Vehicle Radio Communicator 321 is a vehicle mounted HF radio often found joined by the Selector Unit Radio Frequency (SURF) and Tuning Unit Radio Frequency (TURF) in a three piece assembly. These are more commonly found in the back of Landrovers and many other military vehicles.
Frequency Range
The UK/VRC-321 has a frequency range of 1.5 to 29.9999 Mhz in 100Hz steps, providing 285,000 possible channels for use.
Power Supply
The 321 operates with either 2x12V batteries or with a single 24V or 28V battery.
RF Output and Modes of Operation
This is very similar to the PRC-320 and as a HF radio includes Single Side Band (SSB), Amplitude Modulation (AM) and Continuous Wave (CW) modes of operation.
| SSB (voice) |
| High Power | 40 W |
| Low Power | 6 W |
| AM (voice) |
| High Power | 30W Carrier (30W peak) |
| Low Power | 5mW Carrier (3W peak) |
| CW (Morse) |
| High Power | 30 W |
| Low Power | 5W |
Antennas & Ranges
Here are some typical ranges that can be expected with the different types of antenna:
| Antenna | Range |
| Vertical Radiator | 50 Km (SSB) |
| Vehicle Whip (2.4m) | 50 Km (SSB) |
| Dipole | Near Vertical Incidence Skywave 1000+ Km |
Some other compatible antennas include the 2.4m whip antenna and Endfed antenna.
